About
Mission Statement
Our mission is to educate individuals about and promote the sport of rowing throughout the Las Vegas Valley with a particular focus on young athletes. We are committed to developing our athletes into exceptional rowers and even better people. Rowers will hone their teamwork, communication, and leadership skills while simultaneously improving their self-confidence, sense of purpose, and self-efficacy.
Our Story
The Lake Las Vegas Rowing Club (LLVRC) is situated in Henderson, NV, on the beautiful Lake Las Vegas. We formed and incorporated on June 15, 2016, with a nine-member Board of Directors, all from the Greater Las Vegas Area. Six have past rowing and coaching experience, and the other three are community leaders with a passion for the sport and vast experience.
Jim originally found Lake Las Vegas back in 2015 during a vacation to the Las Vegas Valley. After seeing the glassy water many rowers covet, he went back to his hotel and determined the lake’s dimensions. It just so happened that Lake Las Vegas was perfect for a full 6-lane 2,000-meter course. After that moment, he decided to move here and began creating the Lake Las Vegas Rowing Club.
The first team to row on the waters of Lake Las Vegas was the Nevada State College Rowing Club, with only enough athletes to fill a 4+ shell. Practices were held at the Reflection Bay Golf Course, where they learned how to feather and square their oars in lawn chairs. Fast forward a couple of years, and we now have a fleet of boats, a solid Junior Rowing program of 20+ rowers, and a Masters Rowing team of 15+ rowers. Additionally, we have hosted several regattas featuring some of the country’s top women’s collegiate rowing teams.
Lake Las Vegas Rowing Club SafeSport Policy
The health and safety of all our athletes is vital to the success of our club. We are proud to be a part of the SafeSport program, developed by the United States Olympic Committee and adopted by USRowing, the national governing body for the sport of rowing.
