Benefits of Rowing

Testimonials

My son joined the Lake Las Vegas Rowing Club less than a year ago. Since the age of 4, we have been signing our kids up for sports—soccer, t-ball, basketball, karate, swimming. Mainstream sports failed us. Coaches focused only on the star athletes and never on how to work as a team and inspire a love of a healthy, active lifestyle that can continue past their 20’s, 30’s, 40’s ... into their 70’s! We had virtually given up. Then we saw a post about a new rowing club being started at Lake Las Vegas. A great opportunity to start when everyone is learning together. Finally! We found a sport that builds social and athletic interests. Coach Jim focuses on the whole team. He supports us in raising our kids. Keeping them healthy, happy, and an eye on their college education.

The Lake Las Vegas Rowing Club Coach Jim Andersen’s guidance and the Masters athletes preparing her for possibilities have everything to do with her success being invited to training in New Zealand and getting recruited by the University of Texas at Austin Division I Women’s Rowing Team. Rowing crew and sculling are her passions. Thank you for bringing out the best in her character, leadership, and skills.

Although our son has always been involved in athletics, it is difficult to say that he has truly been a part of a team. That changed when in August of 2017 he arrived at the LLVRC boathouse. It was immediately evident the atmosphere was one of encouragement, cooperation, and inclusion, primarily because crew is the ultimate team sport. Unlike other sports, there is no superstar who can save the day. All of the athletes in the boat have to work in unison for the team to be successful.

Joining the Lake Las Vegas Rowing Club crew has had an amazing impact on our son’s life. An incredible coach and knowledgeable, friendly assistant coaches help make the team an awesome experience. He has built friendships, become extremely strong – both mentally and physically, and is truly thankful to be learning this great sport! As parents we love that our son takes a daily technology break – he puts his cell phone away when he arrives at practice and doesn’t touch it for the hours that he is there – and he doesn’t even miss it!
