Junior Alumni News

Ella Gusick (LLVRC ’24)

is a sophomore at the University of North Carolina. Last season as a freshman, she raced in the Varsity 8 all season. UNC won many races and ended up ranked # 25 and just missed out on qualifying for the NCAA Championships. She has spent the last two summers rowing and racing for ARION, an elite group of scullers.  They raced at Canadian Henley regatta in St. Catharines, ON  (Silver in U23 W2x) and ERA Regatta in Montreal.

Ruth Brooks (LLVRC ’22)

In March, they hosted Santa Clara, St. Mary’sPortland State and Orange Coast College and claimed WCC Crew of the Week. before that, at the Hornet Invite they beat Cal Poly Humboldt and Kansas State in the morning session and then lost to UC San Diego but beat Cal Poly again in the afternoon session. They also competed at the San Diego Crew Classic, and WCC Championships.

Ben Dush (LLVRC ’22)

is now in his senior year in the Varsity 8 for the Coast Guard Academy. Last year, they opened the season with a duel against the Massachusetts Institute of Technology on the Charles river. In a strong headwind and choppy water MIT was just too strong for the Coast Guard team and won by 14 seconds. They followed that up with races against Wesleyan University, the defending Division III Champions, Tufts, Trinity, WPI, NE Championships (Winning the Petite final) and National Invite (10th of 18 Crews).

Why Row?

Social

The best part of rowing is the fun you'll have being around excellent people and working as a team to achieve the goal of a fast boat. There is nothing quite like the camaraderie that is built in the sport of rowing.

Fitness

Working almost every muscle of the body, rowing is a phenomenal exercise and injuries are extremely rare. The standard 2,000 meter race is one of the most physically and mentally demanding races of any sport.

Academics

Junior rowers consistently achieve high grades and are more likely to attend college. Several alumni of LLVRC are currently rowing in college and many more have plans to row collegiately.

About Us

The Lake Las Vegas Rowing Club (LLVRC) is situated in Henderson, NV on the beautiful Lake Las Vegas. We formed and incorporated on June 15, 2016 with a nine-member Board of Directors, all from the Greater Las Vegas Area. Six have past rowing and coaching experience and the other three are community leaders with a passion for the sport and vast experience.

Our mission is to educate individuals about and promote the sport of rowing throughout the Las Vegas Valley with a particular focus on young athletes. We are committed to developing our athletes into exceptional rowers and even better people. Rowers will hone their teamwork, communication, and leadership skills while simultaneously improving their self-confidence, sense of purpose, and self-efficacy.
