Junior Rowing Summer Camps

Thank you for your interest in Lake Las Vegas Rowing Club’s 2023 Junior Novice Summer Camps.
2023 Summer Camp Structure
• We offer camps for athletes in 6th-12th grade.
• All athletes must know how to swim and be comfortable in and on the water. There will be a float test during the second day of camp to make sure each athlete can float/tread water for ten minutes.
• Summer Camps are beginning level; no experience is necessary.
• You may come to multiple camps and will be moved up to row with more experienced athletes based on your technical progress and coachability.
• All camps are co-ed.
All camps progress slowly and we spend time on land teaching the basic rowing stroke and body sequencing on the rowing ergometer and rowing simulator. Once the sequencing motion of the stroke is learned, we add in the use of an oar and teach the athlete how to feather and square the blade (blade work) while moving through the correct body sequencing. Finally, we add the unbalanced environment of the water, wind, and learning to follow others (timing) while moving through the correct body sequencing and blade work! We work through these steps one-at-a-time.
We are an outdoor water sport where the winds can affect our ability to get on the water at times. We will always err on the side of caution and can accomplish continued progress on land when necessary.
Camps are 2 weeks long Tuesday-Friday 9:00am – Noon
Price per camp registration: $250
What is the suggested attire and what should I bring to camp?
Wear clothes that you can exercise in (nothing too baggy) and running shoes. We encourage you to bring a water bottle and sunscreen. A swimsuit and towel are needed for the float test on the second day of Camp!
If you have any questions please reach out to Jim Andersen 415-309-9421 or Jim@llvrc.org
